How times change. The SNP is now officially the raving loony party. When the Nats took over from old corrupt Labour there was a general sigh of relief coupled with the optimistic thought that they couldn’t be worse. Well, sadly, they could and they are.
They have failed the country in their handling of the economy, failed the children with their handling of education and failed the population as a whole with their handling of the National Health Service.
It was driven home to me that they deserved the epithet 'stupid' when I read about a minor Nat MSP called John Mason who claimed that “youngsters coming out of school today are more rounded than in the past”. Learning times tables and spelling were apparently “stronger in my day but we have moved on”.
As a beacon of sheer ignorance this man burns ferociously. One of the truths in life and in education is that if you are properly taught the core subjects you can formulate answers more coherently for more complicated subjects than if you have to use your fingers to count or are unable to spell. Words fail when confronted with people like Mr Mason – how do you argue with raw, unadulterated stupidity?
Oh, by the way, to add insult to injury Miss Sturgeon apparently claimed recently that in areas other than literacy and numeracy pupils were doing well? Laugh or cry?
